From the previous photos more here: A single mother-plant of mini-lotus with several runners, each with blossoms. As the mini-lotus plant grows, more and more runners are added and the total area of the plant grows with the number of runners and blossoms.
The complete small array of mini-lotus in the picture shown here is just a little smaller than the size of my 15.4 inch laptop monitor to give you an idea of the tiny size of the mini-lotus or dwarf lotus found in Cambodia.
Beauty needs no minimum size, beauty comes from within and is in the detail - just as in humans. And just as in human life, it appears that some of the most beautiful creatures arise in some of the dirtiest environments. Hence beauty appears to be inversely proportional to the environment a creature grows. Same in human life on earth: The more difficult a social environment, the more beautiful a soul may become when fully matured by the end of a spiritual learning cycle on earth.

Many people have commented that the trade stands at this year's shows have been every bit as good as some of the gardens themselves, and at Tatton I have to agree. Many of the gardens created outside some of the nursery stands were exquisite and beautifully done. trade_stand_display.jpgI was particularly impressed with the display outside Brooklands nursery stand, which featured a swathe of perennials in a range of pastel colours. It was just the thing to entice visitors into the stand to buy plants (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it). I try to resist buying things, but I always like to take home something from the flower shows I work at, and in the end I chose a Dierama. I purchased a large plant from the plant societies marquee, which was accompanied by plenty of useful advice from the grower. Hopefully it will do well in a sunny free-draining spot I have in my new garden. I got at lot of attention as I walked back to our tent with it, I don't think I've had so many admiring glances in a long while. If you're ever at a flower show and want to get attract attention, forget waving a coloured umbrella and choose a large Dierama instead.

We got a silver-gilt medal which we are very pleased with, we're really pleased because it's our first Tatton. The judges did say that they'd like us to do a larger stand and that our plants would really suit a larger exhibit. One of the reasons why we cre ate a display of this size is because it fills one lorry! We never know how the plants will go down when we come to a new show and especially one in a different climatic area, but so far so good. Next week we're going to the Taunton flower show where we're exhibiting our own plants and planting a garden, then Rob and I are off for three days to an undisclosed, secret location to reflect on the last few months and plan for the year ahead.

I decided to title this flower photo with "fruit flower", because this each little flower, making a form like some fruit, and nice colour too.

I'm not sure if it's to keep 'us' in...or 'them' out but on Tuesday, the BBC local radio team were surrounded by a seven foot high fence. However, I'm relieved to report that we were left with a narrow escape route. alison_and_bob.jpgWe started broadcasting on Wednesday with reporters and presenters from BBC Radio Stoke, Coventry and Warwickshire and Manchester. Luckily they managed to find us. You can see the aerials on the top of the 'OB' van, you can't really miss them, they're 20 foot tall - radio_vans.jpgyou just can't work out how to get in to them. We also did '2-ways' for BBC Radio Wiltshire, Oxford, Lancashire, Hereford and Worcester, Sheffield, Tees, Gloucestershire and Jersey. What's an 'OB' or a '2-way'? Like many organisations the BBC is full of jargon and acronyms...I'll share the secrets with you another time.
